You know that famous line from Sex and the City when Carrie says “I like my money right where I can see it — hanging in my closet”? We like to inject that OG fashionista energy with a healthy helping of 2023 inflation realism, which is why we’re always on the lookout for a great sale. If you also have a penchant for shopping and live for the thrill of a deep discount, you’re in luck because Amazon Prime Day Canada 2023 round two is right around the corner.

What is Prime Big Deal Days, exactly?

Amazon Prime Days are limited-time shopping events that offer Prime members major deals across apparel, home, technology, beauty, personal care, and more for two days only.

When are Amazon Prime Big Deal Days 2023?

Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days event is happening from Tuesday, October 10 to Wednesday, October 11.

Who can take advantage of Amazon Prime Day deals?

To take advantage of the giant savings that this sale is known to offer, you’ll need to be a Prime member. After a complimentary 30-day free trial (which you should totally take advantage of during this year’s Prime Day sale if you can), a Canadian Prime membership costs $9.99 plus tax per month.

What kind of deals can we expect during Prime Big Deal Days 2023?

Like most things Prime Day-related, the deals stay pretty top-secret until closer to the two-day event. That said, we’re still thinking about some of the sweet deals we shopped during the Amazon Prime Day in July, including beloved beauty products like this CeraVe cleanser that was seriously marked down. With his portrayal of Elvis in Sofia Coppola’s upcoming Priscilla Presley biopic, Priscilla, already generating buzz at this year’s Venice Film Festival, Jacob Elordi is having a movie star moment — and his impressive designer bag collection is along for the (stylish) ride.

RELATED: In Defence of the Ludicrously Capacious Handbag

Standing at six feet five inches tall, the Euphoria actor’s height alone gives him a commanding presence, but it’s his timeless and sophisticated fashion sense that has reinforced his stylishly confident persona in recent years. And while Elordi often takes quite a classic approach to dressing, favouring staples like fitted trousers and button-down collared shirts as the foundation for many of his go-to looks, the unconventional addition of a designer handbag to many of his outfits has caught people’s attention.

Adding to Elordi’s mystique is that fact that many of the designer bags he reaches for are from the brands’ women’s collections. (Take the Bottega Veneta Andiamo handbag he’s been favouring.) The Euphoria star has been applauded for eschewing gender norms via his accessory choices.

The actor doesn’t reserve his designer pieces just for special occasions either and has been known spruce up a seemingly simple street style look with a luxe carryall, making the accessories appear all the more true to his personal style.

With a wide range of shoulder bags and crossbody handbags from luxury designers such as Bottega Venetta, Chanel and Celine, Elordi has a wardrobe full of coveted accessories that would make any fashion fan envious.

Here’s our round-up of the best Jacob Elordi designer bag looks so far — and what makes each outfit unique.

Elordi’s Chanel shoulder bag stole the show while promoting Priscilla with director Sofia Coppola at the Venice Film Festival. He let the handbag be the star of the outfit, complementing the standout accessory with a simple white collared shirt and grey, straight-leg trousers for a simple, polished look.

A Louis Vuitton travel look

Using a designer bag as a carry-on is a glam statement that many can only dream of making, but when Elordi touched down at an Italian airport ahead of the Venice Film Festival, he did just that. With his Louis Vuitton Monogram Speedy duffel bag, which is also reportedly known as the “millionaire” bag from Pharrell’s debut collection for the brand, in hand, Elordi’s casual travel outfit was immediately elevated.

A barley-there baguette bag

While out and about in Milan this past June, Elordi hid the tiniest of mini handbags under his arm. The brand isn’t quite visible (could it be a mini Coach Tabby?), the purse still plays a big part in this highly accessorized look. Between his simple T-shirt, jeans and sneakers paired with sunglasses, a bucket hat, a mini baguette bag and the book he’s holding, we can’t help but wonder: 1. What is he reading and, more importantly, 2. what can he possibly fit into that bag?

Bottega with a side of athleisure

In a quintessential celeb off-duty look, Elordi was spotted carrying what appears to be two Starbucks drinks in one hand and the trendy aforementioned Bottega Veneta Andiamo bag on his arm. Featuring the brand’s iconic intrecciato weave, this tote has been regarded as one of 2023’s most popular accessories, so it’s no surprise that it’s found a home in Elordi’s elite collection.

An all-leather Burberry moment

To attend Burberry’s Fall 2022 collection presentation in London, Elordi wore a sleek black and white outfit that was fit for the sophisticated occasion. While the look showcases Elordi’s timeless style sensibilities, the most exciting aspect is how his leather Burberry crossbody bag perfectly matches his leather jacket, even down to the identical white contrast stitching on both pieces.

Preppy, edgy, cool and youthful — those are just a few descriptors that come to mind regarding the Olivia Rodrigo style evolution the singer’s been on while promoting her newly released sophomore album, Guts.

RELATED: Can I Dress Like Olivia Rodrigo, Please?

Since her first major acting gig at 12 years old, the now 20-year-old actress and singer is proving that she’s come a long way from her Disney Channel days, both with her outfits and newly-matured music. Coming off the heels of her wildly successful debut album Sour, Rodrigo’s Guts has steadily climbed the charts since its release on September 8.

Just look to the thousands of “20-year-old teenage” fans on social media who have been applauding Rodrigo for her honest, raw lyricism as well as the edgy and nostalgic sound of the album. Some have even noted how the record could have easily been the soundtrack to a number of classic teenage movies from the late ’90s and early 2000s (think 10 Things I Hate About You and Freaky Friday).

And it seems that Rodrigo has fully embraced her latest era by taking on a renewed main character energy, one that includes the daring, pop-punk elements of her new sound mixed with the quintessential cool-girl vibe that she’s curated over the years. Lately, Rodrigo’s been pulling off her gutsy new style by opting for some Y2K graphic tees, a series of cute mini-skirts and the classically preppy socks with loafers and Mary Janes look.

As one of Gen Z’s biggest celebrities, Rodrigo’s latest sartorial adventure is solidifying both her pop star and fashion icon status — and it seems like she’s only just getting started.

Check out some of Olivia Rodrigo’s best style moments from her Guts era (so far) below.

Pulling from the fashion archives

A post shared by Olivia Rodrigo (@oliviarodrigo)

While celebrating her new album’s release, Rodrigo showed that she not only knows what works for her style-wise, but that she’s also well-versed in fashion history with this archival look from Todd Oldham’s spring 1995 collection. By combining the white satin cropped button-down that supermodel Shalom Harlow once sported with the glittery gold mini-skirt that fellow super Amber Valletta wore during the duo’s iconic 1995 runway moment, Rodrigo paid homage to one of the most exciting moments in ’90s fashion history while staying true to her youthful and daring style as of late.

The statement graphic T-shirt

Photography by Getty Images

The graphic tee and mini-skirt combo was one of Rodrigo’s go-to outfits this past summer and we’re not mad at it. While out and about in London ahead of the release of Guts, the singer wore a simple grey mini with a vintage-inspired T-shirt featuring rock star Pat Benatar. She completed the look with some very ’90s accessories, including several silver rings, her all-black shades and black Mary Janes with white socks.

A modern take on mod fashion

Photography by Getty Images

In a slight deviation from her usual darker, more overtly grunge style, Rodrigo sported this all-white look in London this summer. In a fuzzy mini-dress from Patou (that actually features a small triangle cutout in the front, which Rodrigo opted to hide by cleverly wearing the dress backwards) and knee-high white patent leather boots, Rodrigo seemed to be taking a break from her usual ’90s-inspired style for a more 1960s-themed look. But since mod style was actually known to be at the forefront of “risky” fashion at the time, Rodrigo may have been sticking to her edgy style persona with this look after all.

A virtual pop-punk look

To promote her album by hosting a virtual meet and greet inside of a Target (which has since gone viral for it’s slightly dystopian tone), Rodrigo looked the part of a futuristic pop-punk superstar. The singer wore a black tank top with a plaid red skirt (a fashion favourite for Rodrigo) and a matching red lip. What really tied the outfit together though were the knee-high black patent leather heeled boots that the pop star used to complete the look.

Floral with a twist

Photography by Getty Images

For a Guts pop-up event in NYC, Rodrigo wore a classic little black dress with a bold twist in a vintage Betsey Johnson number adorned with flowers. For an extra pop of colour, the singer matched her red strappy heels and signature red lip back to the frock’s rosettes.

With its on-the-court style, not to mention the chic spectator looks in the stands, tennis is fashion’s favourite sport. And, luckily enough for those of us who weren’t blessed with Serena Williams-like athletic abilities, tennis tournaments give us the opportunity to witness stellar courtside celebrity style moments — and the 2023 U.S. Open fashion is no exception.

RELATED: What the Best-Dressed Celebrities Wore to Wimbledon

Michelle Obama’s surprise appearance got the tournament going at an A-list pace when it comes to celebrity tennis fans. On the fashion front, and likely due to the current heatwave across most of the U.S. and Canada, summery staples such as midi-dresses, light colours and florals appear to be ruling the stands.

For what may be your last dose of sunny, sporty style until next summer, check out our round-up of the best celebrity U.S. Open fashion moments from this year’s tournament.

Casual black (and a romantic soft launch)

To make their first appearance as a couple (not counting the paparazzi footage from Beyoncé’s recent L.A. show!), Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet took in a little tennis. For their day date, the couple kept is casual, with the Kylie Skin founder in a basic black T-shirt, jeans, wraparound sunnies and chunky hoop earrings, and the actor in a grey tee, black zip-up hoodie and baseball cap. Young, in love and without a care in the world!

Ladylike luxe

Photography by Getty Images

For an afternoon in the stands, comedian Ziwe and model Emily Ratajkowski opted for elegant polish. Ziwe wore a cropped yellow tweed with what looks like a matching mini-skirt, while EmRata chose a grey knit dress and knee-high boots.

Elevated denim

Photography by Getty Images

You can never go wrong with straight-leg jeans and neutrals separates, which is exactly why Katie Holmes’ tennis style looks so timeless. The actress complimented her denim trousers and cream tank with a dark shoulder bag, matching sunglasses and trendy ballet flats. But, what really makes the outfit is her carefully knotted Miu Miu sweater that she threw over her shoulders for a quiet luxury-goes-to-tennis look.

Sleek suiting

Photography by Getty Images

Emma Watson attended a match in a tailored daytime pantsuit for a vibe that was polished but still easygoing. She completed the black and white look with a black tank top, skinny belt, small handbag and open-toe, flat sandals.

Bright and sunny

Queen Latifah was all smiles to take in some tennis, and her outfit complemented her vibe. The icon paired a Jimi Hendrix graphic tee with a bright orange cargo skirt and bold accessories for a standout look.

A rare matching moment

Photography by Getty Images

In a rare move for the Biebers, who are well-known for their apparent aversion to complementing each other’s outfits, this celeb couple looked very much in sync in matching oversized leather jackets. Their individual styles still shone through as they paired their looks with their own signature accessories, of course.

Keeping it casual

Chloë Grace Moretz (right) looked laidback in a navy blue baby tee with white trim which she accessorized with black cat-eye sunglasses.

All black everything

Photography by Getty Images

Women’s rights activist and social justice legend Gloria Steinem (!) attended the tournament in a sophisticated all-black outfit. Though she kept it simple with her black pants and top, Steinem dressed up the look with an statement gold belt that tied the look together.

Green floral

Photography by Getty Images

Who said florals were just for spring? Not Anna Wintour, that’s for sure. The Vogue editor and well-known tennis fan sported a collared midi-dress covered in a bright green floral print. Wintour completed the botanic moment with a cream-coloured skinny belt, matching boots, an off-white clutch and a blue jewelled necklace.

All white everything

Photography by Getty Images

You can never go wrong with a crisp white outfit for a tennis match and country star Maren Morris proved just that with her chic outfit. The singer opted for a classic white tank dress with a square neckline and completed the look with matching white accessories, including a shoulder bag and thong sandals.

We all know that Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour has been taking both the music and fashion worlds by storm since its first stop in Stockholm, Sweden back in May. And now, with the help of countless celebrities turning up in their absolute best looks, her recent shows at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles may have taken the (birthday) cake.

RELATED: Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour Beauty Looks Are Pure Perfection

To celebrate her 42nd birthday, Queen Bey hosted three shows in L.A. and even had a very special concert on her actual birthday on September 4. The Beyday concert included surprise performances by Kendrick Lamar, who joined Beyoncé on stage for their song “America Has a Problem,” and Diana Ross, who led approximately 60,000 fans in singing “Happy Birthday” to the superstar birthday girl.

The special on-stage guests were just the tip of the iceberg in terms of famous attendees at the Renaissance shows, though. From Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, it seems that just about every A-lister you could think of attended at least one of Beyoncé’s L.A. shows. Naturally, many celebrities also complied with Beyoncé’s Virgo season silver dress code request and turned up in their very best metallic and sparkly “concert dressing” looks.

In honour of what some fans are calling “the biggest music/fashion/celebrity event of the year,” here’s a round-up of the very best celebrity looks from Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour birthday shows in Los Angeles.

The Kardashians

Photography by Getty Images

The Kardashian crew showed up at Monday night’s show in style — and they even brought along Kourtney’s daughter, Penelope, and Kim’s daughter, North, for the special occasion. The little cousins were in on the metallic dress code, matching in head-to-toe silver ensembles by Diesel. The rest of the family also followed the theme of the night, with Kim sporting a bedazzled crystal top and matching purse, Khloé wearing silver pants that matched Penelope and North’s looks, and Kris donning a fully metallic outfit complete with an oversized trench coat and shades.

Gabrielle Union

For her first of two looks, Gabrielle Union tried her hand at the sheer dressing trend, sporting a see-through chainmail dress from The New Arrivals over a metallic silver bra and underwear set. The actress completed the outfit with matching silver shoes, Tiffany & Co. jewellery, and a Valentino handbag.

Kerry Washington, Kelly Rowland and Meghan Markle

In a rare public outing for Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex posed for a photo alongside actress Kerry Washington and Beyoncé’s former Destiny’s Child bandmate, Kelly Rowland. Washington sported a shimmery black top and a sparkling silver purse. To attend her third show of the weekend, Rowland wore a glossy strapless black corset with a silver choker necklace and matching face jewels. For her second time seeing Queen Bey that weekend (she was also spotted wearing a sparkling, sequinned tube skirt by SPRWMN as she danced with Prince Harry during Friday night’s concert), Markle donned a metallic silver skirt and black halter top for a very Renaissance-esque look.

Tracee Ellis Ross

A post shared by Tracee Ellis Ross (@traceeellisross)

We simply couldn’t discuss celebrity looks at Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour birthday stops without mentioning Tracee Ellis Ross. Captioning an Instagram post of her outfit “she said wear silver,” the actress proved that she was taking Beyoncé’s dress code request literally with her oversized silver sequinned dress from Rabanne.

Vanessa Hudgens

In a very Beyoncé-inspired look, Vanessa Hudgens wore a silver sequinned halter minidress with an edgy slit and matching shimmery blazer. But, it was the accessories that really made this look shine. Hudgens completed her outfit with a long, silver chain necklace, cool-girl sunglasses and a massive black, glittery fan reminiscent of the one Beyoncé uses during the show to perform her hit “Heated.”

Zendaya, Ayo Edebiri, Quinta Brunson and Tom Holland

Have you ever seen a more stylish friend group? Beyoncé certainly noticed the on-theme crew, even giving a special shout-out to Zendaya during the concert. Zendaya wore a sparkly ensemble with a crop top, oversized jacket and shorts set, silver hoops and matching pumps. While they weren’t matching, Tom Holland complemented his girlfriend’s decked-out outfit nicely by wearing a leather jacket and a Renaissance Tour T-shirt. The Bear star Ayo Edebiri also abided by the dress code with a shimmery cowl neck top, while Quinta Brunson stunned in a metallic Rick Owens cutout mini-dress with sparkly knee-high boots.

Issa Rae

The Barbie actress was all smiles as she shimmied to show off the chrome effect of the metallic-panelled, two-piece set she wore to one of Bey’s birthday shows.

Keke Palmer

Palmer took her outfit in a slightly different direction than many of the other celebrities at Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour, wearing a black strapless mini-dress by Sergio Hudson. She remained on-theme by pairing the dress with a bedazzled black denim jacket and a sparkly choker necklace. The star took the look one step further by amplifying her glam with silver eyeshadow and matching metallic highlights in her curly hair.

Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber stepped away from her recent “strawberry girl summer” attire for Beyoncé’s concert, sporting a somewhat casual, yet still Renaissance-inspired, look for the night. The Rhode founder wore a simple black tank top and dark grey miniskirt with her hair pulled back into a slicked-back bun that allowed for her silver bulb earrings to shine.

Sofía Vergara

The former Modern Family star danced the night away with moves that would’ve made Bey proud in a sequinned maxi-skirt and black tube top.

Diana Ross

As one of Monday night’s very special guests of honour, Ms. Ross wore a black gown with sequinned detailing to perform her 1975 hit “Love Hangover” and led the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” to Beyoncé. The legendary artist paired the dress with a black feather boa shawl and diamond chandelier earrings for a truly glamorous look.

We’re not sure what we’re more jealous of, Dua Lipa’s seemingly endless beach vacation or her perfectly chill seaside style.

RELATED: Dua Lipa Puts a Mermaidcore Spin On the Exposed Underwear Trend

When she hasn’t been busy at the pink carpet premieres of the Barbie movie, the “Dance The Night” singer has been sharing countless fashionable social media posts of herself touring ancient ruins in Greece, frolicking around beautiful Mediterranean islands and visiting her home country of Albania — and those are just a few of her recent travel stops.

And while Lipa’s apparently never-ending vacation has been one of the internet’s favourite jokes of the summer, her holiday looks have been seriously stylish.

Whether she’s been soaking up the sun on a sailboat, reading by the water, or partaking in a perfectly timed sunset photoshoot on the beach, Lipa has stunned in everything from cute bikinis and crocheted two-piece sets to silky mini dresses.

Since we’ve spent so much of summer 2023 in awe of her holiday looks, here’s a round-up of the best vacation style moments from the seemingly endless Dua Lipa beach holiday.

A polished evening look

A post shared by DUA LIPA (@dualipa)

To enjoy quality family time while visiting Albania, Lipa donned a silky white button-down shirtdress outfitted with long, cuffed sleeves for a very quiet luxury-inspired look. Allowing the crisp simplicity of the dress to shine, the singer complemented the garment with a high, slicked-back bun, silver jewellery and a matching woven handbag.

Embracing the “island girl” lifestyle

While soaking up summer in Sifnos, Greece, Lipa sported a series of chic but laidback vacation outfits. First up was a simple black bikini she later wore with a black, sequined crocheted cover-up. The look was accessorized with a woven Bottega Veneta shoulder bag and favourite vacay sandals. Next up was a breezy one-shoulder green satin look that she wore with her hair in loose waves and gold jewellery. For another evening look, Lipa opted for an edgy asymmetrical mini-dress with a sneaky cutout over her upper thigh that she paired with kitten heels, chunky silver earrings and a slicked-back braided ponytail hairdo.

Posing beachside at sunset

To pose cliffside at an Albanian beach, Lipa sported a chic backless mini-dress from Celine. The singer paired the look with simple jewellery and makeup for a relaxed sunset look.

Sailing through the Mediterranean

As she “sailed through the Peloponnese,” Lipa showed off a cool-girl boating outfit, featuring a baby pink maxi-skirt, plaid bikini and an unbuttoned white blouse that flowed blissfully in the Mediterranean sea breeze.

Dancing the night away

The caption of this post says it all. During her most recent summer holiday in Ibiza, Dua Lipa stepped out in an edgy evening look that screams vacation. Lipa sported a draped, velvet romper over a tulle Gucci bra with lots of eye-catching gold Chanel accessories and a tiny metallic shoulder bag for a look that, as she said herself, belongs on a dance floor.

There are few celebrities who have modern fashion girlies in a chokehold quite like Hailey Bieber. Between the elevated simplicity of her street style looks and her glam red carpet moments to her knack for turning just about anything into a beauty trend, Bieber continues to be a blueprint for copycat-worthy style.

The model and Rhode brand founder has had quite the public style evolution. From sporting skinny leather pants and high-top sneakers during the 2010s to her often sophisticated looks of today, Bieber’s style has hit its stride.

And, despite being labelled as a “double nepo baby” by New York Magazine because of her famous father and husband, Bieber has managed to carve out her own fashion forward personal brand for herself that sets her apart — and she’s had fun while doing it.

In honour of her luxurious yet seemingly attainable style, we’re rounding up some of Hailey Bieber’s best looks of 2023.

August 2023

Bieber wore a series of red ensembles to promote the launch of her Strawberry Glaze flavoured Lip Peptide Treatment in NYC, including this sweet scarlet mini-dress. She paired the strapless number with strawberry earrings and matching red mules.

Earlier that same day, Bieber sported fall’s hottest colour in head-to-toe red for an appearance on Good Morning America. The monochromatic look exuded old Hollywood glamour with Bieber pairing the romantic off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood tea-length dress with matching Maison Ernest stilettos and a chic patent leather handbag by Ferragamo. Staying on theme, the model’s iconic bob was styled into a deep side part and she further accessorized the look with elegant jewellery, including gold hoops, a wristwatch and a collection of rings.

For dinner with fellow supermodel BFFs Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid in Los Angeles, Bieber wore a vintage white Versace mini-dress covered in trippy yellow and orange dots. She paired the citrus-inspired dress with a matching orange Bottega Veneta clutch, white heeled sandals and a “B” pendant necklace for a very end-of-summer look.

July 2023

The off-duty model sported this denim-on-denim look while out and about in L.A. By pairing the quintessential white crop top and baggy jorts combination with a dark denim Calvin Klein jacket and pair of classic gold Brinker + Eliza earrings, Bieber elevated the outfit beyond just errand-running attire. She kept it casual by sporting a pair of trendy black Adidas Samba sneakers and crew-length white socks.

June 2023

A Hailey Bieber style round-up would be incomplete without this head-turning look. The A-lister spent a night out in NYC in full-on Barbiecore, stepped out in this glittery rose-coloured Vivienne Westwood bustier mini-dress. To accessorize, Bieber opted for a slicked-back hairstyle, glowy pink makeup, dainty Tiffany & Co. diamond necklace and earrings, transparent Gianvito Rossi heels and a matching sparkly purse.

Has any other celeb been a bigger advocate for jorts this summer than Mrs.Bieber? The model went full-on dad mode with this white monochromatic look, paired her baggy jorts from Loulou Studio with a skinny belt, her go-to micro-sunnies an a sock and sandal combination that defied all known fashion rules. With the help of a stylish Bottega Veneta bag and her signature brown bob, Bieber elevated the outfit from dad-chic to just plain chic.

Tonal dressing? Check. Oversized coat? Check. White crew socks and loafers? Check! For one of the most stylish coffee runs ever attempted, Bieber paired a dramatic camel coat with a matching belted miniskirt, a simple black top, preppy black loafers and white socks.

March 2023

Strolling hand-in-hand after a brunch date with her husband in L.A., Hailey wore an interesting ‘fit with several elements that shouldn’t have necessarily worked together but totally did. The model wore yellow corduroy pants and a white top with Jil Sander heeled mules, a fuzzy orange-red coat and a red Yankees baseball cap. Despite the seemingly clashing pieces, the outfit was brought together by Bieber’s mini shearling Bottega Veneta bag that complimented the coat’s texture while matching her pants and mules perfectly.

In a cooler weather look that many of us Canadians can appreciate, Bieber stepped out for a coffee date with singer Justine Skye wearing a black bomber-style jacket and her usual black sunglasses, simple gold earrings and slick-backed bun. But, in a move that would only work during an *L.A.* winter, she juxtaposed the oversized coat with a pair of black biker shorts.

On the heels of the popularity of the quiet luxury aesthetic, loafers are having quite the renaissance.

Although the footwear staple has been around for decades, loafers have been gaining buzz both on and off the runway in recent seasons. Gucci’s Spring 2024 menswear collection included several looks featuring the brand’s classic Horsebit loafer. Memorably, the iconic shoe was also recently honoured with a special exhibition to celebrate its 70th anniversary during Milan’s 2024 menswear fashion week. A few weeks later at Dior’s Spring 2024 menswear show in Paris, Winnie Harlow hopped on the trend by completing a sky blue Dior mini dress and layered sweater ensemble with a pair of navy blue leather Horsebit loafers for a cool preppy look.

Of course, TikTok has also influenced the shoe’s recent spike in popularity, too. A quick search for “loafers” on the platform will yield countless videos, many of which have well over ten thousand likes, as influencers and everyday fashion lovers showcase how they style their beloved pairs (yes, some TikTokers seem to have quite the collection).

And as people’s embrace of flat shoes in general grows, along with a sustained penchant for gender-neutral styles, you can expect the loafer’s moment to continue this fall.

The chic simplicity of the original 1936 Penny Loafer design by American brand G.H. Bass was inspired by Norwegian slipper-esque shoes and first known as Weejuns. And lucky for us, the shoe works for almost all seasons. This comes in especially handy when trying to serve your best looks despite fall’s sometimes unpredictable forecasts. After all, what’s worse than wearing open-toe shoes when the temperature suddenly drops down to almost zero? (Just be sure to stow your loafers away before the first snowfall.)

Photography courtesy of launchmetrics.com/spotlight

Not only are loafers a cool-weather wardrobe staple, but infinitely versatile in their styling possibilities — dress them up or down for practically any occasion. From adding a touch of preppy polish to a tailored blazer to toughening up a floral dress, the outfit options are unparalleled. Just look south of the ankles of many Copenhagen fashion week-goers earlier this month for loafer inspo.

Celebs have sworn by the shoe for ages as well. Long-time style icons such as Princess Diana and Grace Kelly were known to sport the style with their most sophisticated outfits and, today, modern supermodels like Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid are often seen seen elevating low-key street style looks with a pair of loafers.

And just like most traditional fashion favourites, the loafer is constantly being reinvented both in its design and how modern fashion fans are choosing to style them. Between the popular lug-sole style reminiscent of Y2K platforms, to the ever-so-comfortable “driving shoe” design, and of course, the sophisticated Prada loafer that’s extremely popular today, the classic shoe has been reinvented a million times over. So, whether you’d rather sport a classic Penny loafer with a pair of straight-leg trousers or pair a more adventurous chunky sole with a mini-skirt, it’s clear that the loafer has bona fide all-star status when it comes to footwear.

Check out our round-up of the coolest ways to style loafers this fall, plus the pairs to shop to recreate the looks.

Preppy, with a twist

PHOTOGRAPHY BY LAUNCHMETRICS.COM/SPOTLIGHT

Despite the popular belief that one must only wear dark socks with black shoes, you can never go wrong with the classic black loafer and white crew sock combo. This preppy look has been in style for the past few years and the stark contrast between the black and white is a crisp way to elevate an outfit. Consider wearing the look with a skirt or pair of oversized shorts so this iconic accessory combo can truly shine.

While you pair white crew socks with just about any loafer, opting for a chunkier version with a bit of a platform can take it to the next level. The dimension of a bulkier loafer, like this one from Call It Spring, adds a little edge and perfectly juxtaposes the preppy vibes of the white sock and black loafer combination.

A pop of colour

PHOTOGRAPHY BY GETTY IMAGES

Deviating from the traditional all-black look, a colourful pair of loafers will add interest to an ensemble. If your outfit already has flashes of colour, the shoes will make the colour pop, and if you’re choosing to opt for a monochromatic outfit, the colourful loafers will liven up the look.

After a Barbie-filled summer, you just can’t go wrong with this pair by Free People. The blush shade is soft enough that it won’t overpower an outfit, but add a cheeky splash that Barbie herself would approve of.

A little something extra

PHOTOGRAPHY BY GETTY IMAGES

You can’t go wrong with loafers that have a little something extra to them. Think: tassels, colour-blocking or grommets. A touch of playfulness on a classic shoe like the Penny loafer feels unexpected and modern.

These black and white loafers scream sophistication. Reminiscent of a classic tuxedo, the colour-blocked leather and exaggerated tassels feel fresh.

The heeled loafer look

PHOTOGRAPHY BY GETTY IMAGES

A heeled loafer brings the footwear staple to new heights — literally — with a stacked heel adding an extra layer of polish to nearly any outfit. Bonus points for pairing the prep school favourite with a cool, contemporary ‘fit, like head-to-toe red leather.

This retro-inspired Prada pair is reminiscent of footwear from the 1950s, but its elegance proves the style has stood the test of time. Between its chunky manageable heel, almond toe and shiny patent leather, this pair is sure to be a prized possession in any loafer fan’s collection.

Fall is calling

PHOTOGRAPHY BY GETTY IMAGES

If you’re on the hunt looking for something other than traditional black loafers to wear this season, a chocolate-toned pair is calling your name. Take the fall vibes to the next level by matching your autumn-hued shoes to other fall staples like an oversized vintage-inspired leather jacket.

The caramel shade of brown on these Aldo slip-ons will match all your staple fall knits. The gold buckle detail and subtle fringe adds just enough interest to the shoe’s traditional shape.

Growing up on reality television and living most of her life in the public eye, Kendall Jenner has had her fair share of viral moments — and attention-grabbing fashion looks — over the years. And we’re always on Kendall Jenner style watch.

RELATED: Kendall Jenner Is the New Face of L’Oréal Paris

As one of the world’s most well-known nepo babies-turned-supermodels, Jenner has honed her own unique style uniform. From her show-stopping Met Gala moments to her expertly curated street style looks, the Calvin Klein and L’Oréal ambassador has certainly carved out a space in the fashion world that sets her apart from her famous sisters.

In honour of Kendall Jenner’s ever-evolving sense of style, here are some of the top model’s best looks from the last year.

August 2023

To attend a party for her 818 Tequila brand, Jenner stepped out in a sexy Gucci dress from the brand’s Fall 2023 collection. She paired the one-shoulder look with nude lingerie, slingback pumps and a Gucci shoulder bag that brought out the subtle shades of green in the dress’s sheer fabric.

While out and about in Los Angeles, Jenner channelled the California sunshine in this vibrant off-duty look. Jenner paired a bright yellow mini-dress from COS with a pair of classic black shades and completed the look with the Suzanne Small shoulder bag from Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello.

It was all about the accessories with this effortlessly cool look that Jenner sported while out and about in New York City’s East Village. The model upgraded the classic T-shirt and straight-leg jeans outfit with a pair of Gucci sunnies, leather loafers from The Row, a brown vintage Hermès Kelly and matching skinny belt.

While on a trip to Paris, Jenner modelled not one, but two Bottega Veneta looks for TikTok. The first look featured the brand’s sophisticated cotton midi-dress with a keyhole cutout. Perhaps utilizing the now-viral “wrong shoe theory,” Jenner made the chic look infinitely most interesting by opting for a classic menswear loafer from The Row instead of a sexy heel. Then, she slipped on a yellow sequined mini-dress that was quintessential Kendall Jenner style.

As creative director of the brand, Jenner wore a monochromatic look while hosting the FWRD pop-up grand opening in Los Angeles. The pearlescent white outfit featured a one-shoulder top and miniskirt set by Rick Owens paired with a white, half-moon leather bag from The Row and Yeezy heels.

While soaking up the sun on a beach holiday in the south of France, Jenner sported a breezy vacation look that screamed model off-duty. Wearing a sheer AMI Paris maxi-dress as a bikini cover-up, she completed the look with a Bottega Veneta tote bag, Gentle Monster sunglasses and flip flops from The Row.

Who could forget this Met Gala after-party look? To celebrate after the big fashion event, Jenner wore a Nensi Dojaka playsuit inspired by a look from Chanel’s Spring 1994 collection. The sheer look, which featured a fully exposed high-cut thong, was complemented by strappy Gianvito Rossi stilettos, a silver clutch, and simple stud earrings.

For one of their first public outings, Jenner wore a white tank top and brown miniskirt to a basketball game with Bad Bunny. While all eyes were initially on the rumoured couple, Jenner’s snakeskin boots by Gianmarco Lorenzi definitely stole the show.

During a night out with her Bad Bunny, Jenner chose a unique look that has been best described as a nod to the “avant apocalypse” aesthetic. The outfit included a see-through Paloma Wool top and a baguette handbag, but the real star of the look was a toss-up between the Blumarine’s Fall 2023 collection mini-skirt and knee-high boots.

Not one to shy away from the sheer dressing trend, Jenner sported another transparent look to attend an event honouring Karl Lagerfeld in New York City just days before the Met Gala. The royal blue Alexandre Vauthier couture gown featured a mock neckline and a glamorous feathered skirt, not to mention a drop-waist silhouette that made the 5-foot-10-inch model appear even taller.

Jenner stunned at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in a vintage Jean Paul Gaultier dress from the brand’s Spring 2008 haute couture collection. The look didn’t include any jewellery and Jenner wore a chic updo that allow the beauty of the bronzed gold gown with petal-like details to shine.

This article was originally published on August 3, 2023 and has been updated.

After months of anticipation, pleas from thousands of Canadian fans and even a tweet from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau himself, Taylor Swift announced on August 3 that she’ll be bringing her extremely successful (and very fashionable) worldwide Eras Tour to Toronto’s Rogers Centre for six dates in November of 2024 — that’s right, Taylor Swift will (finally) be touring Toronto.

RELATED: Taylor Swift Is In Her Midnights Fashion Era

Prior to Eras, Swift had not toured since her Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018. Since then, she’s released four new albums and three re-recordings of some of her earliest albums, a task she’s taken on to regain ownership of her oldest work. As a result, this stadium tour is fittingly presented as a journey through Swift’s entire musical career so far, which she divides into ten distinct “eras” (each named and conceptualized after every one of her albums).

And, in true superstar style, Swift has been consistently outdoing herself with her outfits for every show of this highly-anticipated tour.

With an over three-hour-long setlist of more than 40 songs, Swift has at least one themed outfit for each of her eras — and some eras have multiple costume changes, both on- and off-stage. From bedazzled power suits and ballgowns to embellished bodysuits and T-shirts, each look conceptualizes the feeling of its era through its silhouette, colours, and materials, with some even paying homage to her specific past tour looks.

So, as fans across the country scramble to snag a ticket to Swift’s only confirmed Canadian shows, we’re taking a look at some of the best Taylor Swift outfits from the Eras Tour so far.

The Lover era: A bedazzled pastel Atelier Versace bodysuit

Swift kicks off each of her Eras Tour concerts by opening with songs from her sixth studio album, Lover, and hitting the stage in this custom bedazzled Versace bodysuit with matching glittery Christian Louboutin boots. While she has two other versions of this super-sparkly bodysuit (one is mostly gold and the other is mostly purple), this costume perfectly encapsulates the Lover album as its light pink and blue jewels emulate the ethereal sky in the album’s cover art.

The Fearless era: A gold fringe Roberto Cavalli dress

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Roberto Cavalli (@roberto_cavalli)

To perform hits such as “You Belong With Me” and “Love Story” from her second studio album, Fearless, she’ll often don this gold, shimmery fringe custom Roberto Cavalli dress that’s very similar to another look the designer created for her Speak Now Tour back in 2011. For this part of the show, Swift continues to sport the glittery Louboutin boots from the Lover era and accessorizes with a rhinestone-covered guitar that her parents DIY-ed for her before the first show of the tour.

The Speak Now era: A purple Nicole + Felicia gown

Swift has a few gowns that she rotates through for this era, but this bespoke Nicole + Felicia ballgown, which she debuted the weekend that Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) was released, stands out from the rest. This dress features a simple v-neck bodice which transitions into a voluminous three-tiered sparkly ombré skirt, no doubt a nod to this album’s violet cover art. The spectacle of this dress is fitting for this portion of the show as Swift remains mostly in one spot as she performs nostalgic hits such as “Enchanted” and “Long Live.”

The Folklore era: A green Alberta Ferretti dress

A post shared by Alberta Ferretti (@albertaferretti)

To transition into one of the longest sets of the show and performs songs from her Folklore album, Swift sometimes opts to wear this flowy, light green custom Alberta Ferretti dress that’s full of texture and movement. The intricate details of the kiwi-hued dress, such as the carefully embroidered leaves around its neckline and midriff cutout, encapsulate the imaginative nature of this era.

The 1989 era: A magenta Roberto Cavalli set

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Roberto Cavalli (@roberto_cavalli)

Swift opts for fringe once again with this bespoke pink Roberto Cavalli top and skirt set that’s perfect moving around the stage as she performs upbeat hits like “Shake It Off” and “Blank Space.” The look also pays tribute to another similar two-piece set that the singer wore on her 1989 World Tour back in 2015. By replicating some of her most iconic looks, Swift is embracing an old adage that’s often true when it comes to fashion — if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

The Reputation era: A one-legged Roberto Cavalli snake-embroidered bodysuit

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Roberto Cavalli (@roberto_cavalli)

As the only look for the Reputation portion of her show, Swift wears a sequined, one-legged Roberto Cavalli bodysuit with red snakes crawling up her leg and over her torso. The snake motif is an important symbol associated with Swift’s 2017 Reputation album and subsequent 2018 Reputation Stadium Tour. And now, she uses the animal to re-claim an era of her career where she underwent intense public scrutiny. This is in reference to a period of time in 2016 when Swift was being called a “snake” for revealing that she co-wrote her then-boyfriend Calvin Harris’ popular song “This Is What You Came For,” and when Kim Kardashian effectively called Swift a snake during her infamous feud with Kanye West. Ever since, Swift has used snake symbolism to represent that time period, and any Reputatione-ra outfit just wouldn’t be complete without the motif.

The Evermore era: A whimsical Etro gown

Photography by Getty Images

In keeping with the cottagecore feel of her 2021 Evermore album, Swift wears a custom Etro dress by Marco de Vincenzo to perform some of her most emotive songs. The deep burgundy dress features a tiered skirt and an empire waist. Of course, it wouldn’t be an Eras Tour outfit without some sparkle and this look certainly doesn’t disappoint in that department.

The Art of Concert Dressing https://fashionmagazine.com/style/celebrity-style/concert-dressing/ Thu, 17 Aug 2023 16:00:51 +0000 https://fashionmagazine.com/?p=475065 While the typical concert uniform was once a band tee and jeans, a new era of “concert dressing” is setting a different standard for what fans wear to see their favourite live music acts — and it’s turning concerts into full-on fashion shows. While the typical concert uniform was once a band tee and jeans, a new era of “concert dressing” is setting a different standard for what fans wear to see their favourite live music acts — and it’s turning concerts into full-on fashion shows.

RELATED: Harry Styles Sees and Loves His Fans’ Unique Fashion Sense

The idea behind concert dressing — dressing on-theme to match the vibe of the artist one is seeing — isn’t brand new. People have been dressing according to the energy of the shows they’re attending for ages. For instance, it’s common knowledge that so-called hippie fashion (think tons of fringe, flowy dresses and lots of denim) dominated music festivals dating back to Woodstock and that an outfit for a rock show continues to include staples like leather pants and distressed fabrics. In 2023, concert dressing is taking this tradition to a whole new level.

For some, crafting the perfect concert outfit involves drawing inspiration from an artist’s music. Several concert-goers have done this by matching their look to the general sound of an artist’s discography, while others create ensembles based on particular lyrics (for example, a “wine-stained dress” is a fan favourite to wear at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour because it references a specific line from her 2014 song, “Clean”). Other fans have gone further by fully replicating looks that their favourite artists have worn themselves. Some have even caught their favourite performer’s attention with these extremely detailed concert costumes too — who can forget the iconic moment at Beychella where Queen Bey literally stopped mid-song to praise a fan who had completely recreated the on-stage look she was wearing just the weekend before?

@beautiyonce Replying to @draya___ #Beyonce#MemyselfandIbeyonce#Beychella#fyp#viral#xyzbca#blowthisup#trending ♬ original sound – 𝑩𝒆𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒆́🐝

While over-the-top concert dressing is not a totally new idea, social media has popularized the trend — after all, were you even at the show if you didn’t share your cool concert look on your feed? And there’s no doubt that an overall excitement for the return of live music and a way to celebrate seeing one’s favourite artist in person since the peak of COVID-19 has inspired fans to go all out.

In honour of fashion’s most delightful current fad, here’s a look at the evolution of concert dressing through the years.

The Rolling Stones

Photography by Getty Images

Known for their carefree and eccentric fashion choices, The Rolling Stones certainly influenced a shift in concert culture during the peak of their popularity. As their style evolved from clean-cut suits to leather pants and long hair, their fans’ fashions also began to change. By the ’70s, it was common to see tons of Mick Jagger outfit inspo at a Stones show with concert-goers replicating his outlandish style in crop tops and clashing patterns.

Madonna

Photography by Getty Images

We can’t discuss concert culture without mentioning Madonna. After bursting onto the scene in the 1980s and becoming both a major celebrity and style icon, fans would often sport Madonna-inspired looks to her concerts. And since Madonna is ever the chameleon, having evolved her look and sound countless times over the last few decades, that means fans have worn everything from homemade cone bras and penciled-in moles to feathered hair and low-rise Western pants to watch the Material Girl perform.

Britney Spears

Photography by Getty Images

As one of the most popular performers during the original wave of Y2K trends, Britney Spears’ young fans showed up to her concerts in all the most iconic styles of the time, all sported by Spears herself, of course. Baby tees, low-rise pants and kitschy accessories like butterfly clips and scrunchies would often be worn by her fans. Naturally, artist merchandise was super popular at the time, and fans would often sport Britney T-shirts at her shows.

Harry Styles

@imsarahmcveigh What people wore to Harry Styles 🍒🪩❤️‍🔥🏰 #hslotoutfit #hslot #hslotslane #harrystylesloveontour ♬ Satellite speed audio – 1D Audioz

Regarded by some as one of the most significant reasons modern concert dressing is so popular, Harry Styles fans went all out for every single one of the British pop icon’s shows during his recent two year-long tour. Often drawing from Styles’ on-stage fashion, fans wore bell bottoms, eccentric prints, platform boots, cowboy hats and lots of feather boas to Styles’ Love On Tour shows. Others would even take it further by recreating some of Styles’ icon looks for the show or re-imagining song lyrics into full-on, Met Gala-worthy costumes.

Taylor Swift

@sarahfromflorida OBSESSED with every swiftie’s outfit last night!! Taylor would be so proud!! #taylorswifterastour #erastouroutfits #erastouroutfitideas #karmaisacat #swiftietiktok #tampaerastour ♬ Bejeweled – Taylor Swift

One group of fans who are committed to dressing up for concerts is the Swifties. For those lucky enough to snag a ticket to Taylor Swift’s wildly popular Eras Tour, the outfit is a major part of the experience and a way for fans to show love to their favourite Swift albums, songs and even past looks. For example, many fans choose to wear costumes that represent their favourite “era” of Swift’s career, such as an all-black, snake-motif-filled look to represent her “Reputation” album or a westerninspired look to emulate Swift’s debut country album, “Taylor Swift.” Other fans have opted to recreate some of Swift’s red carpet looks, with a popular one being the floral Oscar de la Renta dress the singer wore to the 2021 Grammy Awards. Whatever direction they choose to take their outfit, the verdict is clear that Swifties do not mess around when it comes to their Eras Tour looks.

Beyoncé

The fashion from both Beyoncé and her fans during the singer’s current worldwide Renaissance Tour is in a league of its own. Inspired by the disco dance party vibes of Beyoncé’s Renaissance album, fans have been sporting sparkly, futuristic and western-inspired looks. And Queen Bey is matching the energy by debuting several new couture costumes at every show. As Beyoncé sings herself, “it should cost a billion to look this good.”

In case you missed it, Beyoncé is in the middle of an historic world tour — her first in seven years! — and the jaw-dropping outfits she’s been sporting have been just as captivating as her Renaissance Tour performances.

We covered the first leg of Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour looks above, and now that Queen Bey is on North American soil, we’ll do our best to log all her new concert ensembles here. First up: Canada’s very own Toronto, where Beyoncé and her wildly talented crew of backup singers and dancers performed two epic shows on July 8 and 9.

Toronto, Ontario

Beyoncé kicked off the North American leg of her Renaissance Tour by opening the show in a custom Tiffany & Co. Elsa Peretti mesh dress. The one-a-kind creation featured chains of bezel-set stones on approximately 150 feet of mesh ribbon that took over 200 hours to make. Bey complemented the look with (what else?) a Tiffany & Co. jewellery — vintage earrings and a custom anklet.

Later on in the July 8 show at Toronto’s Rogers Center, the queen debuted another new tour outfit that was giving Destiny’s Child “Survivor” (IYKYK). The pop star’s camouflage look was comprised of a sequined bodysuit, a custom sequined cropped jacket by Adidas x Ivy Park, and thigh-high heeled boots. She accessorized the shimmering camo moment with knit gloves, oversized black sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat that she took off to showcase her honey-blonde inches.

For night two in Toronto, Bey busted out yet another sparkly new outfit in the form of a custom lace Fendi dress with honeycomb-inspired crystal embroidery based on the house’s Fendi Couture Spring/Summer 2021 collection.

Philadelphia

For her first Renaissance Tour concert in the U.S., Beyoncé slipped into a custom Givenchy mini-dress that was accented by intricate cut-outs and flourishes of fringe. The singer accessorized the dress with ankle-tie heels, sheer black opera gloves, and Tiffany & Co. diamonds.

Bey chose another sequin-covered camo outfit from Ivy Park for her Philadelphia tour stop, this time a two-piece set with attached gloves and chaps-like detailing that extended into her boots.

Finally, the superstar selected a dramatic silver look from Valentino to close her Philly show. The ensemble featured a miles-long cape, and she finished the look off with sparkly boots — and a matching silver horse, naturally.

For the next stop on her U.S tour, Bey fully committed to the disco cowboy aesthetic she’s been sporting all Renaissance season. Wearing a glittery red dress, the “Cuff It” singer accessorized with patent leather cowboy boots and a statement belt and necklace.

She then changed into a hot pink look that would give Margot Robbie and the rest of the Barbie movie cast a run for their money. True Beyhive members will be quick to clock the similarities of this Ivy Park outfit to the one she wore in Amsterdam and Toronto. But instead of a gown, Beyoncé turned it into a fringed romper and jacket and added another pair of thigh-high boots.

Then to top it all off, Queen B collaborated with British fashion royalty, Alexander McQueen, on an embroidered bodysuit with matching gloves and shoes.

For her third fresh Louisville look, the superstar temporarily shelved the all-over sparkle, selecting this custom Diesel catsuit. The ensemble may look like denim but it’s actually a trompe l’oeil look pattern meant to look like the fabric.

This Barbie is actually Beyoncé! The singer embraced all things Barbie during her concert in Minneapolis the day before the much-anticipated movie hit theatres in this metallic pink Acne Studios outfit. She accessorized her micro-shorts and bustier with a long, oversized coat and sparkling thigh-high boots.

Next, the queen Bey (and queen of bodysuits) wore a jaw-dropping custom Alexander McQueen creation complete with sequin horse embroidery on a tulle base.

Rihanna, queen of pregnancy fashion herself, is pushing the maternity wear game forward, proving once again that maternity lingerie can be sexy, functional and comfortable all at the same time, with her latest collection for Savage X Fenty.

RELATED: Rihanna Has Her Pregnancy Outfit Formula Down Pat

In a series of Instagram posts shared by the @savagexfenty account on August 8, Rihanna, who’s currently expecting her second child with A$AP Rocky, is all smiles modelling the capsule’s black nursing bra while breastfeeding her son RZA. Of course, Rihanna isn’t the only one modelling Savage X Fenty in the post — her baby boy sports a pair of black shorts covered in the brand’s logo in an adorable mother-son matching moment.

“Not your mama’s maternity bras… designed by @badgirlriri, approved by baby RZA 🫶🏾 #SavageXMaternity,” read the caption of the announcement post.

Fans shared their enthusiasm for the surprise drop in the post’s comment section, praising Rihanna for her latest lingerie designs. “I remember in 2020 when I was breastfeeding I was like damn Riri needs to sell us fashionable maternity bras 😩. Now I need another baby,” commented one particularly enthusiastic fan.

The 35-year-old singer has been synonymous with stellar maternity style ever since her first pregnancy back in 2022 and this capsule collection further proves that the star isn’t afraid to challenge the norms of “traditional” maternity wear.

While maternity bras are often primarily focused on comfort and functionality, this collection promises all that and more with designs the brand says are both “sexy and supportive.” And, from the strappy, lacy and pastel-coloured bralettes that are already available online, it seems like the line is living up to its claims.

“The new maternity capsule is about bringing that confidence and comfort to moms at every stage of their journeys,” said the singer in a news release. “I want to remind people that you can still channel sexiness and feel-good while being a parent.”

The collection, which comes in sizes XS-4X, falls in line with the brand’s previous inclusive lines and its promise to embody “fearlessness, confidence and inclusivity” with their “styles made for everyBODY.”

Whether she was performing at the Oscars or having a night out, RiRi has consistently wowed in every new maternity outfit she’s sported since her first pregnancy. By wearing pieces not usually seen on expecting mothers, such as bra tops, tight mini-dresses, and pieces with strategic cutouts and sheer fabrics that expose her baby bump, Rihanna has ushered in a new trend of maternity dressing that empowers expecting mothers to embrace feeling sexy and wear what they want, regardless of society’s traditional (and sometimes subconscious) belief that pregnant people should dress conservatively.

As she’s demonstrated with her boundary-defying looks throughout both pregnancies, Rihanna chooses to highlight her bumps as a way to celebrate the joys of pregnancy and motherhood. This bold profession of love has even inspired other expecting mothers on TikTok to try replicating some of her iconic maternity looks.

@aylawoodruff_ Going for Rihanna Island Vibes🌸✨🌴 What do we think? #revolve #outfit #vacation #dress #pregnant ♬ Good Vibes (Instrumental) – Ellen Once Again

“When I found out I was pregnant, I thought to myself, ‘There’s no way I’m going to go shopping in no maternity aisle. I’m sorry — it’s too much fun to get dressed up,'” she said as she graced the cover of Vogue‘s May 2022 issue.

Since then, Rihanna has not only stayed true to her fashionable self but has inspired countless others to look at maternity style through a more liberated, and hopefully less judgemental, lens. And, with baby number two still on the way, we can’t wait to see what jaw-dropping looks pregnant RiRi pulls out of her closet next.

In a series of seaside Instagram posts shared on July 30, Dua Lipa not only reminded us that she’s actually a Mermaid Barbie in real life but that the controversial exposed thong trend isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

RELATED: The Exposed Bra Trend Is Officially Back

In her new vacation-inspired pics, Lipa wears a red see-through crochet dress with a long train, her dark brown hair fittingly styled in beachy mermaidcore waves. The real star of the outfit, though, was the simple black thong that was clearly visible under the knit gown.

A post shared by DUA LIPA (@dualipa)

This isn’t the first time that the singer has hopped onto the cheeky exposed thong trend either. In fact, she’s sported different versions of the divisive style on several occasions over the past few months, including a few weeks ago at the Barbie movie premiere in Los Angeles.

Lipa looked the part of Mermaid Barbie in a custom crystal chainmail Bottega Veneta gown that had an almost wet appearance. Due to the look’s semi-sheer nature, the pop star’s sparkly underwear was on display.

A post shared by DUA LIPA (@dualipa)

While Lipa has mastered the art of the exposed thong, she’s just one of the celebs who have hopped on this trend in recent years. One of the first modern reinventions of this audacious look can be traced back to Hailey Bieber‘s 2019 Met Gala outfit. Bieber was giving Barbie before Barbiecore was even a thing in a bubblegum pink Alexander Wang look that she paired with a high ponytail and pearl earrings. The long-sleeve gown featured a super low back which, of course, exposed a light pink thong that was adorned with the word “wang” in sequin block letters.

And, according to her most recent New Year’s Eve outfit, Bieber is seemingly still a fan of the exposed thong. To ring in 2023, she sported a little black Mugler dress that featured several cutouts, including one that appeared to show off matching black undies.

Not one to shy away from a bold outfit choice, Miley Cyrus also rocked the bold trend to usher in the 2023 New Year. While co-hosting NBC’s Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party with her godmother, the one and only Dolly Parton, Cyrus sported a little black dress with strategically placed side cutouts that appeared to display the singer’s underwear.

Other stars have sported the look for more casual occasions, such as Bella Hadid’s 2019 street style look where the model wore low-rise blue baggy jeans over a high-cut black thong.

A post shared by Fashionlights (@mhtfashionn)

While these are all recent examples of celebs putting their spin on showing a little skin, the exposed thong trend was a staple of Y2K fashion. In the late ’90s and early 2000s, the fad was commonly referred to as a “whale tail” in which one’s thong would be worn just high enough to peak out above a pair of low-rise jeans. Stars like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Halle Berry and Christina Aguilera helped popularize the trend at the time, and now, the exposed thong is having a renaissance along with countless other Y2K fads that have been revived — whether we like it or not.

No one’s doing Barbiecore better than Margot Robbie this summer. As the Australian actress travels the globe to promote her titular role in the highly-anticipated live-action Barbie movie, her style has been heavily inspired by the iconic Mattel doll’s fashion sense, with every outfit looking like it was perfectly plucked out of Barbie Land.

RELATED: Dua Lipa Was Every Inch the Mermaid Barbie in Her Shimmering Fishnet Dress

And, between the seemingly endless brand collaborations, elaborate press events and unique experiential marketing tactics (we’re looking at you, Barbie Dreamhouse Airbnb) promoting the film, it only makes sense that Robbie would lean into this one-of-a-kind character’s style.

Robbie is trying her hand at method dressing — which, for some actors, is the process of dressing in the aesthetic of the character they play or movie they’re in — and her style is clearly deliberate, detail-oriented and, of course, extremely pink. These outfit choices are helping to blur the lines between where Robbie ends and Barbie begins, making her appear as one and the same with the classic character and further solidifying her status as one of the biggest movie stars of our time.

At the film’s world premiere in Los Angeles on July 9, Robbie wore perhaps her most literal Barbie look yet, solidifying that she is now and forever in her Barbie era. The actor transformed into 1960s Barbie for the pink carpet premiere, rocking a custom black sequinned Schiaparelli couture gown with matching opera gloves.

Photography by Getty Images

And last week, Robbie was on a whirlwind Barbie-dressing streak that was nearly impossible to keep track of. There was her very ’90s “Totally Hair: 25th Anniversary” Barbie doll reference on July 7 (complete with crimped hair and groovy printed minidress, not to mention an epic vintage Versace moment a few days earlier and the below 1984 “Day to Night” Barbie look capture by Robbie’s hairstylist Bryce Scarlett.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Bryce Scarlett (@brycescarlett)

On Australia’s Bondi Beach on June 29, Robbie wore another Barbie ensemble that appeared to have been borrowed directly from the iconic doll. Although the outfit, surprisingly, didn’t feature any pink, Robbie wore a custom black and white striped Hervé Léger mini-dress, Barbie’s classic white-rimmed vintage sunglasses and black Manolo Blahnik heeled mules as a nod to the first-ever Barbie doll which was released in 1959.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Andrew Mukamal (@andrewmukamal)

The look, which was initially shared by Robbie’s stylist, Andrew Mukamal, on Instagram, is strikingly similar to the doll without it being an exact replica. The 1959 outfit consisted of a black and white strapless leotard while Robbie went for a more modern adaptation with a mini as she paid tribute to the ensemble. The references didn’t just stop at the clothes and accessories, though, as Robbie also sported a high, retro-inspired ponytail, which looks strikingly similar to the hairstyle the original doll wears.

Robbie even remained on-theme as she touched down in Australia earlier this week. As she walked through the airport, the star wore a vintage pink Chanel blazer while carrying the chicest matching light-pink luggage set that we could totally imagine Barbie using to travel the world.

She exemplified her commitment to emulating Barbie’s iconic style once again when she attended a press stop for the film in Los Angeles last weekend. As she channelled her inner doll, Robbie sported two all-pink looks during the trip that were almost too on-point.

The first consisted of a light pink, two-piece bustier and pleated miniskirt Bottega Veneta set and coordinating Manolo Blahnik peep-toe heels. In photos that her stylist once again shared on Instagram, Robbie truly couldn’t have looked any more Barbie-like as she enthusiastically posed in front of a perfectly matching pink convertible with a matching handbag and the iconic white sunglasses, of course.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Andrew Mukamal (@andrewmukamal)

While attending a press event in Beverly Hills the next day, Barbie once again came to life through Robbie as the actress wore a pink polka-dot halter Valentino mini-dress with a yellow shoulder bag and white Manolo Blahnik pumps. We’d be remiss if we didn’t note that we’re sensing a theme with the star’s favoured-footwear choice — who knew Barbie was such a Manolo fan? If their universes were to ever collide, we’re sure Carrie Bradshaw and Barbie would become besties over this shared obsession alone.

Photography by Getty Images

Robbie’s commitment to method dressing for the role isn’t new either. Back in April at CinemaCon 2023 for one of the film’s first promotional stops, Robbie sported a pink and white gingham two-piece Prada ensemble that was reminiscent of two dresses Barbie wears in one of the movie’s first trailers.

Some of Robbie’s co-stars have also received the method-dressing memo and are leaning into their character’s fashion senses as well.

Ryan Gosling, who plays one of the many Kens in the film, already went viral for his CinemaCon 2023 look that consisted of a pink sweater and a white T-shirt with “From Director Greta Gerwig” written across the front in Barbie font. And the Canadian movie star mostly recently channelled his real-life Kenergy last night in Toronto.

At the Canadian press event, Gosling sported a head-to-toe Gucci look consisting of a pastel blue suit with a pink shirt. Simu Liu, who plays a fellow Ken in the movie, also attended the press stop and showed off his Barbie-inspired look with a striped pink shirt under a retro green leather jacket and brown trousers.

In just the past few months, this cast, and particularly Robbie, have proven just how creative they can be as they dive deeper into the method dressing opportunities this film presents. And why shouldn’t they? There’s perhaps no other franchise that is as fun, carefree and colourful as Barbie, and it’s great to see the stars taking full advantage of all the fashionable, once-in-a-career outfit choices they have. After all, it’s Barbie’s World, we’re just living in it.

There’s perhaps no other movie star these days who takes as many style risks as Florence Pugh. The British actress has quite the track record when it comes to her daring fashion choices and Florence Pugh added to that list once again with another free the nipple moment.

RELATED: Florence Pugh Is the Queen of Hair Transformations

While attending the Valentino Fall 2023 Couture show on July 5, Pugh went braless in a sheer, lilac gown that featured layers of draped fabric, a plunging neckline and a ruffled collar. She looked both edgy and delicate as the dress’ shocking transparency and revealing backless silhouette directly contrasted with its light material and flowy train — a uniquely audacious combination that the Little Women star has worn on several occasions.

She also debuted a fresh take on her buzzcut, which she first sported at this year’s Met Gala, as she turned heads with a new bright pink colour. The movie starlet allowed her tulle Valentino gown and the vibrant shade of her latest hairstyle to shine by pairing the outfit with a classic glam makeup look, minimalistic diamond earrings and her iconic septum ring.

Between her new ‘do and the shockingly sheer dress, fashion fans quickly took to social media as they shared Pugh’s latest couture look. And, while some championed her expressive style choices, others weren’t the biggest fans of the unique look. But after last year’s controversy, this shouldn’t be a surprise.

In case you don’t remember, during last year’s couture fashion week in Rome, the actress generated a ton of controversy online as she arrived at the Valentino Fall 2022 Couture show wearing a sheer, pink gown, with her nipples fully visible.  At the time, Florence Pugh addressed the nipple controversy on her Instagram by saying, “Listen, I knew when I wore that incredible Valentino dress that there was no way there wouldn’t be a commentary on it. Whether it be negative or positive, we all knew what we were doing. I was excited to wear it, not a wink of me was nervous. I wasn’t before, during or even now after.”

After a lengthy caption in which she called out body-shamers and double standards, she ended the post by sharing a photo of her covering her nipples with her fingers and completed her caption with, “Oh! The last slide is for those who feel more comfortable with that inch of darker skin to be covered… #fuckingfreethefuckingnipple”

A post shared by Florence Pugh (@florencepugh)

Pugh followed up the controversial pink Valentino dress a few months later with a different see-through, nipple-freeing look in October 2022. In another head-to-toe Valentino look, Pugh sported a sheer, sequin-detailed crop top and maxi skirt set as she attended Spring 2023 Paris fashion week — which also caught a lot of media attention.

Back in September 2022, Pugh seemingly made a different kind of statement through her audacious outfit choice at the premiere of Olivia Wilde’s film Don’t Worry Darling, in which she starred opposite Harry Styles and, allegedly, endured a ton of backstage drama while making the movie. As she attended the red carpet in none other than a Valentino Fall 2022 couture glittery, sheer dress with feathery heels and a classic old-Hollywood-esque glamour beauty look, some onlookers suspected that the actress’ bold style choice was sending a message of defiance in response to how she’d been treated surrounding the release of the film. And, while she and her cast-mates outfits each had their own individual style, Pugh’s look did not complement any of her co-stars’, making the few group shots from the event look chaotic and out-of-sync.

Yet, Pugh did drop some hints that this may have been her intention with wearing the daring look all along. When asked what she found inspiring about working on the film during the premiere, she seemingly confirmed suspicions of behind-the-scenes drama as she said, “I think it’s very very inspiring to see a woman push back and say ‘no,’ and question everything. It’s very exciting to see a woman do that on and off camera.” Knowing the details of the drama surrounding the film, that defiant attitude certainly came through in her outfit choice for the Hollywood occasion.

From her most-talked-about looks of just the past few years, the actor has certainly proved that she’s consistently one to watch both on and off the red carpet. While she’s proven to be loyal to Valentino for her outfits, the question remains: what will she wear next? Perhaps Florence Pugh will wear more free the nipple-inspired looks as she gears up to promote her role in the second instalment of the highly-anticipated Dune series? Only time will tell what Pugh’s next major fashion move will be, but we’ll surely be keeping an eye on her ever-evolving style.

Whether he was ditching high school dance rehearsals to help out the costume department or convincing his kindergarten class to put on a fashion show, it’s clear that Farhan Haque was always destined to work in fashion. But it wasn’t until the end of high school that he committed to a career in fashion design.

“It was always a matter of theatre production or fashion,” says Haque of his early career aspirations. “I think I [didn’t realize] the fact that I like to make theatrical clothes doesn’t necessarily mean [they’d have to be for a] character. Instead, I could create life costumes.”

And that’s exactly what he’s done.

Today, the 2021 graduate of Toronto Film School’s fashion design program is the creative director of his self-made brand, Mr. Haque, which is named after his outgoing, confident and eccentric alter-ego. The expressive persona of “Mr. Haque” translates into his custom creations too, which is apparent through the unique, structural designs that stars like Priyanka, Mia Martina and former FASHION cover star Jordan Alexander have worn.

With just two official collections under his belt, the 23-year-old Toronto designer has already amassed a dedicated following within the city’s fashion scene — most recently dressing Veruschka for FASHION’s 2023 Cake Mix party — and he’s only getting started.

FASHION spoke to Haque about where he draws inspiration, designing for drag queens and how he sees his brand developing.

Was there a defining moment that helped you decide to commit to fashion design?

“At the very last minute in high school, four of my friends didn’t have prom gowns. And I’d never made a gown like that — I had made costumes, but not a gown. So I made the first gown literally overnight, out of excitement. Then I did the second one on the second night and within four days, these four gowns were all ready for prom. That’s when I was like, ‘Oh OK, fashion is the way.’

Where do you find inspiration?

“For someone in the public eye, usually their stylist comes to me with a mood board and that’s when I’ll sketch out an idea so we can visualize it together. If it’s my personal pieces, a lot of inspiration comes from music. I’ll listen to music and imagine the designs walking down the runway or how they would look dancing. Both of the finale looks at each of my last shows have been set to dramatic soundtracks and both designs came from the movement of that music.”

How does that musical influence translate to the designs themselves?

“You’ll see a lot of draping because it works well for movement. But, I also love tight, tight, tight corsets. I always like to play with the opposing sides, like one dress will be super flowy and then the one that comes right after is super structured. It depends on the kind of song I was listening to at the moment.”

You’ve done a lot of work with drag queens. How is designing for a queen different from your other work?

“There’s the aspect of trying to feminize the body. So, for example, I’ll have to ask them questions like, ‘Will you have butt pads on? Will you be wearing a bra?’ because that’s something to consider when taking the measurements. It’s such a unique art form.”

Do you remember the first time you designed a look for a drag queen?

“I had a queen in my first show, actually. I would have had even more but at the time, I just knew one. Now, thankfully, I’ve been introduced to so many more queens. I didn’t come out until I was 18. So as I progress, and become more open in my queerness and become more accepting of things, like I can paint my nails and I can beat my face everyday, I’m slowly opening up more to that world.”

Photography by SARAFONFILM

Who is Mr. Haque and how is he different from Farhan?

“In my regular life, I’m not as bold as I am when I have the makeup on and the outfit on and the heels on — once those are on, I’m a whole different person. That’s when I’ll say the things I want to say. When I’m just regular Farhan, I can’t walk up to someone and say hi. But when I’ve got Mr. Haque on, he’ll go up to any person on the street and just say, ‘What’s good? What’s up? Let’s be friends.’ I definitely have to bring forward that persona when I’m mingling with fashion people, because that’s a whole skill in itself.”

How would you describe Mr. Haque and your brand in three words?

“Theatre. Glamour. Movement.”

@itsmrhaque Only just the beginning. 🥂 #aspiringdesigner #fashiondesigner #torontobased #fashion #fyp ♬ original sound – Ij Arias

What’s next for you?

“I love making costumes and I’ve always done that, but I want to have a website with ready-to-wear so anyone can shop my brand. I’m also in the process of working on my third collection and the show for that will hopefully be happening sometime in the fall. I can’t give too much away but the entire show is basically a dance number and we’re infusing clothes into it. I’m throwing a lot at it in hope that the risks [will pay off] and people will see that, ‘Oh yeah, he can do it.’”

Current style favourites such as cargo pants, platform shoes and even oversized tote bags also made appearances on the Parisian streets. Others turned to Y2K-esque minimalism with lots of exposed midriffs, crop tops and, of course, daringly low-rise pants. And don’t even get us started on the sunglasses!

In a rare deviation from her and her sister’s usual black, monochromatic ensembles, Mary-Kate Olsen was spotted wearing a bright red coat in New York recently. And that’s not all — the fashion designer doubled down on her surprisingly colourful outfit, sporting a bold pair of metallic, gold loafers. Baggy, ripped jeans completed the look, nary a stitch of signature black or grey in sight.

RELATED: Our Favourite Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Fashion Moments

Some social media users immediately noticed this out-of-character style choice and took to Twitter to shared the colourful look.

“Mary-Kate Olsen wearing color, it’s time for summer!!!” shared Twitter user @MIUCClAMUSE. Others were more taken aback by the designer’s surprising outfit choice. “Seeing an Olsen twin wearing colour feels like spotting a shooting star,” wrote @kirkpate on Twitter.

So why is it so shocking to see an Olsen twin wearing anything other than neutrals?

Over the past 15 years, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who are co-founders of the quiet luxury fashion brand The Row, have become notorious for their timeless, sophisticated-yet-effortless uniform (and matching serious facial expressions). But their style hasn’t always followed their now-typical monochrome palette.

To fully understand the Olsens’ style evolution, you have to travel back in time to their Full House days in the late ’80s and early ’90s. During this period, the two young actresses took turns playing the youngest Tanner sibling, Michelle, and if their off-screen outfits weren’t identical, they were at least complementary. In stereotypical early ’90s style, the emerging fashion trailblazers would also frequently wear trends of the era, such as floral dresses, wire-framed sunglasses, and overalls.

Photography by Getty Images

In their post-Full House era, Mary-Kate and Ashley took on a series of now-iconic television and movie roles. As they hit the red carpets in the late 90s and early 2000s for films such as It Takes Two, Passport to Paris, Holiday in the Sun and their final movie together, New York Minute, their style was slightly more mature as it evolved to match their more grown-up tween and teenage selves.

While the fraternal twins would often continue to match, the end of their joint film career also saw their style and beauty choices start to diverge. By 2004, Mary-Kate had decided to ditch her iconic blonde hair for an auburn-brunette shade while Ashley went for a dramatic blonde fringe. Other differences became increasingly evident as each of the girls’ individual sense of style developed.

Photography by Getty Images

During the last few years of their acting careers, and especially immediately following their retirement, the twins were coming into their own as style icons and became synonymous with the “boho-chic” trend. The bohemian look quickly became the pair’s signature style as they experimented with lots of layering and accessories or would opt for loose-fitting pieces made of flowy fabrics that opposed other Y2K trends of the time.

By the time the Olsen twins launched The Row in 2006, their style had evolved beyond their boho-chic era into a more casual-yet-sophisticated way of dressing that often consisted of oversized pantsuits, minimal accessories and, of course, the all-black ensembles that they’re known for today.

Since the late 2010s, the Olsens have retreated further out of the Hollywood spotlight with each passing year as they quietly work on their label. And, whenever they’d be spotted in their luxurious off-duty looks, the enduring allure around the two sisters would only grow as their matching monochrome outfits had an undeniable air of mystery to them.

For their few public appearances in recent years, the twins have consistently opted for head-to-toe black. One of their most recent and notable monochromatic matching moments occurred when the sisters wore black vintage leather Chanel to the 2019 Met Gala, which directly opposed many of the bright, colourful, high-camp looks that other attendees wore to “Notes on Camp”-themed event.

The twins’ allegiance to dressing in mostly black, especially when they were once known to follow other trends, is a big reason why Mary-Kate’s recent bright-red coat and gold loafer outfit was so shocking.

Nevertheless, whether the twins were leading the boho-chic pack back in the mid-2000s, showcasing their luxurious, minimalistic The Row designs in head-to-toe black, or throwing us colourful sartorial curveballs, it’s clear that the Olsen twins are some of the most intriguing (and mysterious) style icons we’ve ever seen.

With her sophisticated style and ability to turn just about anything she does into the latest trend, there’s no doubt about Sofia Richie Grainge’s It girl status. And the American socialite has proven her influence yet again by wordlessly reviving a bygone (and somewhat controversial) hair trend — the side part.

RELATED: It’s the Summer of Sofia Richie Grainge

In a playful TikTok of Richie Grainge and her friend, comedian Jake Shane, lip-synching to Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice and Aqua’s new collaboration for the Barbie movie soundtrack, the newlywed casually debuted her hair styled with a deep side part that left viewers reeling.

@sofiarichiegraingebarbie world♬ original sound – Young Money

“No side parts are not back you guys don’t look like her,” wrote one commenter. “This is not a drill side parts are back in,” wrote another user. And perhaps no other response captured what thousands were thinking more than this one: “PS. On behalf of all millennials, thank you for giving the side part the justice it deserves. It’s been hard out here!”

But why is the return of this once-beloved hairstyle so divisive?

If you were on TikTok back in the summer of 2020, you’ll surely remember the playful feud that broke out between some Gen Zs and millennials when user @missladygleep said, “Prove me wrong, but I don’t think there is a single person who looks better with a side part than they do a middle part.”

Since then, debate over the once extremely popular hairstyle has continued on social media, but it wasn’t until Richie Grainge’s latest video that people seem to be reconsidering the look — and attempting to emulate it.

For many millennials, side parts (often featuring distinctly swoop-y bangs — think Rihanna in her Pon de Replay era) were a defining aspect of their style identity during their teen and early adult years in the late ’90s and early 2000s. This is directly opposed to many of Gen Z’ers preferred hairstyles, who typically opt for a middle-part these days, often slicked back into “clean girl” buns.

Side parts have their place in beauty history, too. Icons such as Marilyn Monroe and even Jessica Rabbit, for example, were known for their deep, dramatic side parts and pinned-up curls, which are still the standard of vintage glamour today.

According to Pew Research Centre’s definition of the generations, Richie Grainge herself is part of Gen Z, which is especially interesting when you consider how historically unpopular side parts are with the generation. But, as she paired the hairdo with a chic all black outfit and classic Chanel accessories, Richie Grainge proved yet again that her personal sense of style transcends modern trends, fads and even popular opinion.

The hairstyle seems to be a risk that’s already paid off, too. Despite the initial shock from some people, tons of the socialite’s followers are already embracing the new look and trying Richie Grainge’s new side part for themselves.

And, if this trend is anything like others that Richie Grainge has set, side parts may just be here to stay — whether we’re ready or not.

UPDATE: In an interview with Entertainment Tonight that was published on June 8, 2023, Jennifer Lawrence revealed the actual reason she wore flip-flops to the 2023 Cannes Film Festival red carpet.

Despite speculation that she wore the shoes in protest of Canne’s alleged “no flat shoes” policy, it turns out that the A-lister’s footwear choice was purely for comfort and safety. In the interview, Lawrence explained that the heels she was originally wearing were a size too big. When it came time for her to descend the infamous Cannes red carpet steps, she thought that she’d fall if she wore heels. So, she made the wise decision to change into a sensible pair of flip-flops.

“I was not making a political statement,” said Lawrence. “Not that I wouldn’t — I had no idea that there was a whole controversy with people wearing flats or walking down the red carpet barefoot… I’m all for making a statement, I would just want it to be on purpose.”

Although it turns out there wasn’t a deeper meaning behind Lawrence’s Cannes footwear choice after all, there are many other celebs who have seemed to take a stand against the supposed no flat shoes “rule” at Cannes.

This year’s Cannes Film Festival is well underway and the star-studded event has already gifted us with countless glamorous, high-fashion celebrity looks. Jennifer Lawrence certainly lived up to that standard with her vibrant Dior gown worn on the red carpet on May 20 — but it was the flip-flops she paired with the look that really captured audiences’ attention.

RELATED: The Best Looks From the 2023 Cannes Film Festival (So Far)

At first glance, one may think that the unique footwear choice is a nod to Lawrence’s “relatable” celebrity persona and a desire to prioritize comfort over style. But, there actually may be a deeper meaning behind the star’s decision to swap out her crimson high heels for the black flip-flops that she wore to walk down the carpet’s famous steps.

It’s widely known that the dress code for Cannes red carpets is formal, black tie attire, but there appears to be an unwritten rule that women are expected to follow to attend the festivities: they must wear high heels.

While the origin of this unofficial guideline is oft-debated, there’s no doubt that high heels have long been regarded as a staple of femininity and attractiveness for women. A 2022 study found that women in high heels were regarded as being more sexually attractive and of a higher social status than women who were wearing flats. And yet, while sky-high stilettos may complement an outfit, sometimes a chic, comfortable pair of flats is the more responsible call if you don’t want to be in pain all night.

No one knows this better than the A-listers who often have to attend hours-long events in constricting clothing and uncomfortable footwear. As such, there are several other famous female celebrities who have challenged this sexist “rule” on past Cannes carpets — and some have been more direct with their statements than others.

Isabelle Huppert and Cate Blanchett in 2023

Jennifer Lawrence wasn’t the only star to seemingly stand up against the rule at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. French movie star Isabelle Huppert gave a subtle nod to the absurdity of the guideline by wearing nude Anatomic heels by Balenciaga at the premiere of Killers of the Flower Moon. This wasn’t just any old pump though, the design and colour of the heel were made to mimic a bare human foot, which totally made it look like Huppert was defying the “only high heels” rule on the carpet.

Cate Blanchett took one of the most direct stances of all when she presented the Breakthrough Artist Award to Iranian-French star Zahra Amir Ebrahimi at this year’s festival. Before introducing Ebrhaimi on stage, Blanchett made note of the sexist “ban” as she said, “I am going to take my heels off, in honour of the women of Iran. This is to stab all the people that stand in the way of women’s rights.” Ebrahimi had to flee Iran when she was in her twenties after an intimate video of her and her boyfriend was leaked and a criminal case was made against her for having pre-marital sex. As the two artists shared a hug onstage, it became abundantly clear that Blanchett speaking out against the festival’s “no flat shoes” ban was actually a much larger political statement on the need to speak out on gender inequalities for all.

Photography by Getty Images

Kristen Stewart in 2018

Kristen Stewart also made a statement against gender inequality in the fashion world on the red carpet for Blackkklansman at the 71st annual Cannes Film Festival in 2018. Similarly to Roberts, Stewart ditched her Louboutin stilettos midway through her appearance and walked the rest of the carpet barefoot — and the star was much more outspoken about the alleged high heel rule. “I feel like you can’t ask people that any more. If you’re not asking guys to wear heels and a dress, you cannot ask me either,” she told reporters. “I get the black-tie thing but you should be able to do either version — flats or heels.”

Photography by Getty Images

Julia Roberts in 2016

As she walked the red carpet for the premiere of Money Monster back in 2016, Julia Roberts infamously kicked off her heels midway through the event and concluded her appearance barefoot. When asked about her decision to ditch the shoes, Roberts said, “A lot was happening from my ankles up. Let’s not forget all that. A lot of time and effort went into ankles up.” Whether this act of rebellion was a direct response to the “no flat shoes” rule at Cannes, its timing certainly makes it seem like it was a statement. In 2015, just one year before Roberts walked the carpet barefoot, a group of women were allegedly not allowed into a screening of a film at Cannes because they were wearing flat shoes.

Queen Bey returned to the stage for her first solo tour in almost seven years on May 10 as she kicked off her international Renaissance Tour in Stockholm, Sweden — and the pop star did not come to play with her Beyoncé Renaissance tour looks.

RELATED: Beyoncé Said Quit Your 9-5

The “Break My Soul” singer opened her almost three-hour-long show by performing classic tunes such as “Dangerously in Love” and “1+1” in a custom Alexander McQueen crystal-embroidered bodysuit with matching ankle boots (below). The outfit was a classic Beyoncé look as it highlighted the star’s silhouette with its exaggerated shoulder pads and extra detailing around her hips.

Beyoncé and her dancers then slipped into custom Courrèges to perform “I’m That Girl,” “Alien Superstar” and other hits from her latest album, Renaissance. For this look, Bey sported a silver bodysuit that featured a circular cutout reminiscent of a magic mirror in the middle of her torso. Her dancers also wore matching silver two-piece sets that channelled the futuristic, nightlife vibe of this portion of the show.

Next up was a brightly-coloured and holographic mini dress by David Koma that captured the cool ’70s-disco energy of the night. Bey even came on stage in this ’fit wearing matching sunglasses and a complementary jacket to perform the club hit “Cuff It” and later took the accessories off to belt out songs like “Energy” and “Break My Soul.” Italian jewellery brand Almarow also created a custom pair of earrings named “Renaissance Superstar Earrings” to complete this powerful look.

As the superstar sang through her show’s 36-song setlist, another costume highlight included a custom pearl-adorned Balmain corset, which she paired with a matching hat, sunglasses and thigh-high black latex boots. Beyoncé also stunned in a bejewelled and (literally) figure-hugging custom Loewe bodysuit by Jonathan Anderson (below) that was inspired by a dress from the brand’s Fall 2022 ready-to-wear collection. She paired it with elegant black opera gloves, complete with press-on nails, that perfectly matched the outfit’s eye-catching design.

The looks kept getting better as the show went on, but perhaps one of the most exciting moments of the night happened when Beyoncé walked out in a white gown that, with the help of two robot arms and a UV light, soon transformed into a colourful-triangle-patterned dress that left the audience in a daze.

And of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention how Queen Bey wore a literal bee costume, which was custom-made by Mugler and inspired by a look from the designer’s Spring 1997 haute couture collection, aptly named Les Insectes, to perform “America Has a Problem.”

To wrap up the night, Beyoncé flew above the stage on a sparkling, silver horse — reminiscent of the one on her Renaissance album cover — in a matching custom Coperni look designed by Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant. As she said her final goodbyes to the crowd after the hours-long show, her metallic bodysuit and ankle boots shimmered as her cape gleamed in the bright arena lights.

Since debuting her first set of looks, Queen Bey has already updated her tour wardrobe with a handful of jaw-dropping new costumes. And as her worldwide tour continues, stay tuned as we share a city-by-city round-up of Queen Bey’s costumes.

Sutherland, England

The global sensation showcased a fresh outfit when she opened her concert in Sutherland, England on May 23 in a glamorous custom sky-blue Brandon Blackwood dress. The elegant high-slit gown was paired with matching pale blue heels, opera gloves and a sparkling necklace and earring set.

Paris, France

Bey also debuted a new opening outfit when she hit the stage on May 26 in France, as she (literally) sparkled in a silver gown that was decked out in sequins.

London, England

The singer continued to raise the bar with her new costumes during her five-show run at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium from May 29 to June 4.

For the first show on May 29, Beyoncé hit the stage in an electric blue custom mesh gown by Roksanda that completely covered her body and was fitted with a long train.

What really stole the show in London, though, was a bespoke Off-White bodysuit that took over 50 hours to make. The red look, which included several elements of Off-White’s Fall 2023 collection, including 40,000 red crystals, was complimented by Beyoncé’s dancers’ matching red ensembles — and, of course, her daughter Blue Ivy’s costume as she joined her mother on stage.

As she began her second night in London, the singer stepped out in a sparkly, deep-red Alexander McQueen dress that glistened on stage. The dress, which was inspired by McQueen’s fall 2023 ready-to-wear collection, featured a plunging sweetheart neckline and reams of draped fabric, and was accessorized with matching opera gloves and metallic thigh-high boots.

For her third London show on June 1, Bey wore a custom Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood black latex corset dress with unique structured spiral sleeves.

Then, for the opening look at her final show in London, she wore a custom form-fitting Robert Wun gown that featured a plunging v-neckline, dramatic shoulder ruffles and an asymmetrical cascading train.

When she came back on stage to perform “America Has A Problem” during her last London concert, the superstar stepped out in a bespoke Mary Katrantzou mini dress with a fun twist. The look, which featured black and gold detailing and a surrealist hourglass figure, was coined the “perfume bottle dress” as its silhouette, and matching headpiece, mimics the appearance of a classic fragrance bottle. Staying true to her “Queen Bee” identity, Beyoncé also paired the look with a pair of antenna-esque sunglasses.

Barcelona, Spain

Beyoncé debuted two new custom looks while performing her almost three-hour set in Spain on June 8. First up was a disco-inspired Stella McCartney dress and leggings set that featured ethically-sourced materials and thousands of hand-placed, lead-free crystals. On her Instagram, McCartney shared photos of the singer wearing her design with the caption, “So proud to see @Beyonce in custom, conscious Stella crystals… Reflecting the silver touches, power and glamour of her iconic tour.”

The second new look was a custom red, black and silver leather Intarsia catsuit by Fendi. The costume, which drew inspiration from illustrations by Antonio Lopez in Fendi’s Spring 2022 collection, was paired with matching thigh-high boots, silver opera gloves, cat-eye sunglasses, a red wide-brimmed hat and an upcycled fur Intarsia cape.

Marseille, France

As she took the stage in Marseille, Beyoncé once again surprised her audience with two new costumes. The first was a custom Alberta Ferretti leotard featuring a miniskirt and asymmetrical train. Like so many of her other Renaissance tour looks so far, Bey accessorized with matching over-the-knee boots and opera gloves.

The second costume she premiered in Marseille was a custom Jacquemus look reminiscent of a disco ball. The mini-dress was fitted with small, silver reflective panels and paired with (what else?) thigh-high boots and opera gloves, of course.

Beyoncé is set to hit the stage at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto this July and, with over 50 more shows to go on her Renaissance tour, fans are buzzing about what surprise costume changes are up her sleeve. We can’t wait to see what Queen Bey has in store.

Disney’s new live-action adaptation of the beloved 1989 animated classic The Little Mermaid has been making major waves both on social media and at the box office. After its theatrical premiere on May 26, the film, which stars singer-songwriter and Beyoncé’s protégé Halle Bailey as Ariel, earned approximately $117.5 million at the box office in the days immediately following its release, making it the fifth most successful movie release over Memorial Day weekend in history.

From the movie’s refreshed score to its iconic fairytale storyline, it’s no wonder it’s been such a success so far. And one of the most stunning aspects of this adaptation is Bailey’s embodiment of the “little mermaid” herself. Playing such an adored Disney princess is no easy task and, according to many fans and film critics, Bailey rose to the occasion, capturing Ariel’s desire to be part of the human world with her compelling acting and breathtaking vocals.

Beyond her talents, Bailey captured the essence of Ariel because of the physical transformation she underwent to look like the mermaid. From costuming to hair and makeup, here’s everything we know about how Halle Bailey transformed into Ariel for the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid

Creating Halle Bailey’s mermaid glow

Just how did Bailey’s makeup capture that mermaid glow in the movie? Bailey’s makeup artist, Kat Ali, revealed some of the products and rituals used while filming on her Instagram.

For face makeup, Ali went with MAC’s Face and Body foundation and Uoma Beauty’s Stay Woke Concealer. She then used Milk Makeup’s Cream Blush Stick in Quickie and Dior Beauty’s Backstage Universal highlighter for an extra dose of leading-lady shine. Ali created Bailey’s mermaid pout by pairing MAC’s classic lip pencil in the muted, golden-nude shade Cork with Chanel Beauty’s Rouge Allure lipstick in the shade 174 Rouge Angèlique.

For eyes, Ali used Tom Ford eyeshadows to create the shimmery lid that Bailey wore for most of the film. For her perfectly-placed eyelashes, Ali and Bailey opted for eyelash extensions instead of falsies or mascara, which made the most sense for “under the sea” filming. But beauty really is pain sometimes, even for a Disney princess. Bailey revealed in a recent interview that the eyelash extensions would sometimes interfere with her work. Since they were on a strict filming schedule, Bailey would have no choice but to get her freshly-filled eyelashes wet before the 24-hour waiting period during which you’re supposed to keep a new set dry. As a result, she had to endure days where her eyes were burning in between takes — ouch!

And last but not least, we couldn’t take our eyes off the glittery mermaid scales that covered Bailey’s skin during her underwater scenes, but, according to Ali, those were actually all CGI-generated. That same scaly effect was also digitally edited onto Bailey’s cast mates, like Javier Bardem who played King Triton, to enhance the oceanic illusion. Ali shared that she did products such as Glossier’s Priming Mostiruizer and Kate Somerville Skincare’s Factor 50 Uncomplikated Makeup Setting Spray to keep Bailey’s skin glowy and healthy while they were filming in the hot summer heat.

Tailoring her mermaid tail

One of the most recognizable aspects of the animated Ariel’s look is her iconic sea green mermaid tale and the live-action adaptation paid tribute to the classic look with its own unique spin for Bailey’s version of Ariel.

Costume designer Colleen Atwood created a life-like mermaid tail that was perfectly fitted to Bailey in order to give the appearance that the aquatic appendage was simply an extension of her body. To do this, Atwood, who has won four Academy Awards for costume design during her decades-long career, constructed the tail using 3D screening and carefully placed layers of silk to create the illusion of iridescent, shimmering scales whenever Ariel swam around. This wasn’t the final product that we see in the movie, though, and Bailey didn’t actually wear the tail for any of the scenes that took place entirely underwater. Instead, Bailey wore a motion-capture suit while filming and the movie’s visual effects team later used CGI to digitally edit the tail onto her body. The post-production technology scanned the hand-made tail that Atwood and her team created and later added additional layers of dimension and colour to create a final, more “realistic,” mermaid tail that now appears in the movie. Whoa.

Ariel’s new hairdo

It’s no secret that CGI played a huge role in the making of the movie, and that extended into the animation of Bailey’s iconic red Ariel hairstyle. Director Rob Marshall revealed that most of the movie’s underwater scenes were filmed with Bailey wearing a large wig cap that was covered in technological “markers.” Later, with the help of blue screen technology in post-production, the flowing combination of dreadlocks and loose pieces of hair were digitally attached to Bailey’s scalp to create the illusion of them floating through the water.

During the land scenes, Bailey wore extensions and her natural hair, which is styled in long dreadlocks that reach past her waist, a choice that was surely by design. Bailey shared in a recent interview that she’s had her dreadlocks since she was five-years-old, saying her hairstyle is part of the “essence” of who she is. As such, keeping her natural hair as part of her version of Ariel was extremely important to her. The film’s creative team agreed and hair designer Camille Friend devised a plan to maintain the health of Bailey’s locs while also creating a modern version of the classic red hairstyle that Ariel is known for. To do so, Friend explained that only the roots of Bailey’s hair were dyed the ginger-red colour she sports in the film and each of her individual locs were wrapped in the same colour. To preserve the health of Bailey’s natural hair, and for continuity reasons while filming, Friend said that the hair-wrapping process took about 12 to 14 hours and that the film probably spent approximately $150,000 on Bailey’s hair in total.

The specific shade of her hair sparked some controversy on social media, with some moviegoers saying that the look should’ve been a brighter red more similar to the animated Ariel’s hair. While there were many options for how the live-action Ariel’s hair would look, Friend ultimately went with the more subdued ginger shade not only because it looked more realistic than a bright red, but also because it suited Bailey’s complexion better.

Regardless of peoples’ personal feelings, these aesthetic choices were made to honour the original animated Ariel while creating an modernized version of the princess for new Little Mermaid fans to admire and, more importantly, see themselves in — and if that doesn’t capture the true meaning of Disney magic, we don’t know what does.

RELATED: Is Elle Fanning the Queen of the Cannes Film Festival?

If you recall last year’s festivities, it was one for the books. Anne Hathaway stunned audiences by wearing five gorgeous looks throughout the week, which ranged from an all-white custom Armani Privé column skirt and crop top combo to a hot pink Valentino gown. Bella Hadid‘s vintage, old-Hollywood ensembles were a social media sensation. And Adriana Lima beautifully showing off her baby bump? Iconic!

This year, the festival runs from May 16 to May 27, and the stars have (so far) walked the 2023 Cannes carpet in bold colours and extravagant gowns. Think lots of sparkles, full skirts and even a cape or two. They also love their matching accessories — check out Helen Mirren’s blue hair and Naomi Campbell’s sunglasses, for starters.

Every May, the Cannes Film Festival not only gifts us with the premiere of several new Hollywood and foreign films, but it also presents us with some of the most exciting celebrity moments — and this year’s 76th annual event was no exception.

As the festivities took place over the last ten days on the French Riviera, countless A-listers graced the red carpet in their best black-tie attire and most glamorous, jaw-dropping gowns. Some even sported the recently revived exposed bra trend while others opted for uniquely puffy and playful silhouettes. The excitement didn’t just stay on the carpet, though, as many behind-the-scenes moments made waves on social media too. After all, would it even be Cannes without a little drama?

Check out our wrap-up of some of the top moments from the 2023 Cannes Film Festival below.

Rawdah Mohamed stole the show in Robert Wun’s “The Scorched Bride” couture dress

We can’t begin to talk about fashion at this year’s festival without mentioning the stunning Robert Wun gown that Somali model Rawdah Mohamed wore to the premiere of La Passion De Dodin Bouffant. The couture look is known as “The Scorched Bride” dress from Wun’s Spring 2023 horror-themed collection and with the dramatic burn marks on the beautiful silk fabric, it certainly lives up to its name. Stunning details such as its distressed veil and detailed train also make the outfit a red carpet standout. The dress also proves that modesty has a place on red carpets, which is a principle that Mohamed has long been an advocate for.

Brie Larson shuts down a journalist who asked her about Johnny Depp

During a press conference for the jurors at this year’s event, Brie Larson had a tense exchange with a reporter when she was asked about her opinion on about Johnny Depp’s new film, Jeanne du Barry, opening the festival. This comes after months of Depp being in the news for his controversial abuse case with his ex-wife, Amber Heard. Larson was visibly confused by the question and told the reporter, “You’re asking me that? I’m sorry, I don’t understand the correlation or why me specifically.” The reporter explained that since Larson has been a vocal supporter of the Time’s Up movement (and was a member of the cause’s celebrity advisory council), he was curious about her thoughts on Depp’s involvement in this year’s festival and if she’d watch his film. In response, Larson ended the awkward exchange by saying, “Well, you’ll see, I guess, if I see it and I don’t know how I’ll feel about it if I do.”

Helen Mirren sported a bold blue hairdo

Helen Mirren and Lady Gaga have certainly brought a new meaning to “feeling blue!” Who do you think wore it best? Comment below! #Cannes2023 #cannesfilmfestival #ladygaga #helenmirren

There were tons of exciting beauty moments (we’re really tempted to get bangs now) on this year’s Cannes red carpet but a standout has to be Helen Mirren‘s colourful hairstyle that perfectly matched her gown. As she attended the premiere of Jeanne du Barry, audiences were blessed with the surprise of seeing Mirren in a beautiful blue dress with a matching azure updo. Fun fact: Lady Gaga sported a similar look back at the 2019 Golden Globes. Who said “feeling blue” is always a bad thing?

Jennifer Lawrence wears flip-flops and Cate Blanchett ditches her high heels

The “no flat shoes” ban for women at Cannes has been a topic of conversation yet again this year as both Jennifer Lawrence and Cate Blanchett seemingly took a stand against the alleged “rule.” While she didn’t speak out directly on the ban, Lawrence caught lots of media attention when she changed from her red high heels into a pair of black flip-flops before descending the famous Cannes red carpet steps. Blanchett made a more direct statement by telling her audience exactly why she was taking off her heels while presenting the Breakthrough Artist Award to Iranian-French star Zahra Amir Ebrahimi. We’ll certainly be paying attention to the footwear choices at Cannes next year!

An influencer doused herself in artificial blood on the red carpet to raise awareness for the Ukraine war

In one of the more shocking moments from this year’s festivities, a Ukrainian blogger named Ilona Chernobai made a daring political statement ahead of the premiere of the sci-f horror film Acide. As she posed in a blue and yellow dress, which represents the colours of Ukraine’s flag, Chernobai suddenly grabbed two small packets of artificial blood from her dress and poured them on herself before being quickly ushered off the carpet. In an unverified English translation of a statement Chernobai posted on her Instagram account after the protest, the influencer allegedly said, “I took my chance and with this act, I reminded what is happening in Ukraine!!!…People should not forget about us!”

Sam Levinson’s The Idol premiered — and social media had a lot of thoughts

The award for the most controversial screening at this year’s festival has to go to The Idol, a new HBO show from the minds of Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd) and producer Reza Fahim starring Tesfaye and Lily-Rose Depp. The buzzy series focuses on the life of an up-and-coming pop star (played by Depp) and acts as a cautionary tale for the dark side of Hollywood. But why’s it so controversial? In March 2023, Rolling Stone exposed the drama that was going down on the show’s set while explaining how its plot romanticizes abuse and even called it a tale of twisted “torture porn.” Users on social media chimed in to critique the show as well, with many connecting Levinson’s troubling directorial choices to similar Euphoria plotlines while celebrating the bad reviews for the series as they came out. Despite the controversy, Levinson still claims that the series will be “the show of the summer”  — will you be watching?

In his latest leading man role, Timothée Chalamet has been announced as the new face of the Bleu de Chanel fragrance for men — a partnership that’s a stylish fit for both the Oscar-nominated actor and the classic Parisian brand.

Though he’s been known for sporting high-fashion looks for years now, this collaboration is Chalamet’s first partnership with a fashion house. Chanel picked the Dune star, who they call “one of the most alluring and audacious actors of his generation,” to be the face of the men’s fragrance partially due to his edgy persona and often daring style choices, according to an official release from the brand.

Not one to shy away from bold colours, unique silhouettes and unexpected textures, Chalamet has made a name for himself for his creative and gender-fluid red carpet style, frequently working with designers like Louis Vuitton and Haider Ackermann. Back in September of 2022 at the Venice Film Festival, the actor made headlines as onlookers were blown away by his show-stopping backless red jumpsuit, which was designed by the aforementioned Ackermann. You know what goes great with a fashion-forward gender-bending jumpsuit? A woody aromatic scent.

Without even trying, his off-duty style is just as cool. The star is often seen sporting his favourite Prada jacket and loves to layer with streetwear staples like windbreakers and sweaters (like the iconic Glossier hoodie Timmy wore back in 2019, and no, he wasn’t an ambassador, just a fan) when he’s out and about. Fans are so enamoured with his street style that there’s even an Instagram account called @readytimmywear, which has over 30K followers, that chronicles Chalamet’s looks both on and off the red carpet.

Chalamet’s meteoric rise to fame after starring in the 2017 coming-of-age film, Call Me By Your Name, has been nothing short of neck-breaking. Since his big break, Chalamet has starred in movies such as Lady Bird, Little Women and Beautiful Boy. Fans of the 27-year-old actor are also waiting on his next projects to hit the big screen, which includes the titular role in Wonka, the prequel to the 1964 Ronald Dahl novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the next instalment of the Dune series, Dune: Part Two. And how could die-hard Chalamet fans forget last year’s cannibal love story Bones and All, co-starring Canadian (and fellow fashion darling) Taylor Russell?

In a conversation with Chanel about his new beauty gig, Chalamet discussed how working with the brand felt like a “no-brainer” and explained, “As someone who is passionate about movie making and acting,” the significance of “collaborating with a fashion and beauty house that has a vast, substantive history with cinema.” That history continues with this campaign — a campaign film, directed by Martin Scorsese, be be released this coming fall.

So, is Chalamet an everyday scent kind of guy, or someone who uses fragrance for special moments? It would seem it’s the latter, with the actor taking as thoughtful an approach to grooming as he does style. “When you put on Bleu de Chanel, you’re emphasizing a distinct experience, or maybe a certain look, occasion, or date,” the actor says. “For me, personally, there’s a specific intention behind fragrance. I’m not someone who wears a scent all the time. When I do, it becomes emblematic of a moment, and later there’s a nostalgia for that moment and it becomes something more meaningful.”

The Bleu de Chanel campaign, shot by legendary fashion photographer Mario Sorrenti, will be released in June.
